Our Start
Fix & Feed was built on an entrepreneurial spirit that rewards hard work, a growth mindset, and quality service. The story began in 1995 when our owner, Bobby Hill, purchased a shopping center in Commerce, Texas. Bobby grew up working in his father's grocery store in Ladonia and believed a hardware store would be the perfect anchor tenant to serve the Commerce community.
When no major hardware retailers were interested in the location, Bobby decided to do it himself. In 1996, Fix & Feed Hardware opened its doors. Bobby applied his childhood lessons and retail experience to a new market, creating a business where the customer always comes first. It was a family journey from the start, with Bobby, Kathy, Robert, and Jennafer Hill all sharing in the vision.
"No hardware retailers were interested, so Bobby decided to do it himself."
Our Core Principles
When Fix & Feed was founded, quality customer service and taking care of our employees were the highest priorities. Almost 30 years later, these principles continue to guide the second generation of family leadership. We believe that a great team is the key to our success at all five of our locations: Commerce, Bonham, Sulphur Springs, and Quinlan.
Our philosophy is simple: remain "Friendly, Local, and Affordable." We strive to be the community's go-to hardware store, offering the brands you trust—like DEWALT, Milwaukee, and Priefert—backed by the kind of service you can only get from neighbors.
Meet Scott Ward
Chief Operating Officer
"If you’re going to provide service, you need to be able to roll up your sleeves and do the work."
This is Scott Ward’s mantra, and it guides his actions daily. As owner Bobby Hill's son-in-law, Scott currently runs the day-to-day operations at Fix & Feed. From the beginning, he wanted to immediately demonstrate to the team that he would lead by example by doing any and every job.
"It’s extremely tough for a son or son-in-law to lead and grow a business, and I wanted employees to know that I would lead in a way that builds trust and credibility with our team and communities," said Scott.
To deliver on this commitment, Scott spent his first two years working in all facets of the business, from the feed barn to the sales floor. His goal was to have a comprehensive understanding of operations and demonstrate a willingness to do any task he would ask of others—a lesson he applied from his previous career in banking, where he advanced from a college-aged teller to senior leadership.
This culture continues at Fix & Feed today. It’s not unusual to witness Scott or other leadership members working the cash register or helping a customer. "We aren't too proud to earn your business, from leadership to the person helping you on the floor".
