The Easiest Way To Stretch Your Fence

The Easiest Way To Stretch Your Fence: 8 Simple Steps

Barbed wire fences have been used to keep animals in or out of an area for hundreds of years. They are a simple and efficient way to contain livestock, and they can also be used as a deterrent against trespassers.

Barbed wire fences can be a valuable tool for farmers and property owners, but amateur farmers don’t know that this one has to be stretched to create an effective barrier. One loose wire can become a huge security breach! This is when a wire fence stretcher becomes extremely useful.

Fence Stretching Step-By-Step

Here are the steps to stretch your fence using a wire fence stretcher:

  • Step 1: Set up the corner posts, brace posts, and line posts. Decide where you want to put the top row of barbed wire. Wrap the end of the roll of barbed wire around the corner post. To secure it, twist the wire several times over itself.
  • Step 2: Wrap the wire around the corner post, but do not tie it. Stretch it before tying it down. Cut the remaining wire with wire cutters.
  • Step 3: Attach the fence stretcher’s barbed wire clasp to the clamp end of the fence stretcher or come along the tool. Close the clamp to lock it in position.
  • Step 4: Place the brace stringer or come along tool against the brace post, the second post from the end. Tighten the barbed wire using the fence stretcher.
  • Step 5: Place two fencing staples in the brace post to keep the tightened barbed wire in place. The staples should be positioned in a way that the tension of the barbs is applied against them, keeping the wire tight. Remove the fence stretcher from the system.
  • Step 6: Remove the wire from the corner post. Hand tightly pull the wire around the corner post and wrap it around. Twist the end of the loose wire around the tight one to keep it in place. At least two fencing staples should be inserted into the wire on each corner post.
  • Step 7: Drive fencing staples through the wire and brace posts to keep it in place in the opposite corner. To connect the wire, use fencing staples in the remaining line posts. Attach the wire with wire fasteners if you’re using steel fence posts or T-posts as your line posts.
  • Step 8: Repeat the procedure for each strand of barbed wire. Install the barbed wire beginning at the top and working your way down.
